This is my second oil painting. It was begun in August 2012 about 10 days after I painted The Last Bales. I was completely smitten by the brilliant color in this field of golden rod. While I was happy with my rendering of the golden rod, the picture lacked something when I finished. In fact, I removed a scraggily, old pine tree after painting it in originally, but the picture was still lacking.
After much thought, I added the blanket, umbrella and shadows which are a complete fiction relative to this plein air scene I painted in the summer.
