Let me describe this scene: These poppies were right along side the road and stood about 10 feet away from me and my easel. They were perched on a rather steep and luxurious green hillside that rose rather sharply to a tall stand of trees in the distance. I believe it was the marvelous contrast with the green backdrop that made these poppies an irresistible subject.
